Seaweed is having a moment – here’s what’s happening.

The Kelp Current - April 2026
Seaweed Stories. Ocean Insights. Everyday Impact.
New here? A short 3-email intro is also on the way.

Hi Friend,

The last few weeks have felt like a shift.

More people finding Get Kelp. More industry voices joining the conversation. More moments where seaweed moves from “interesting” to relevant — in materials, food systems, and coastal economies.

I felt that in a simple way recently — out at a local beach with my son Theo as spring seaweeds started coming back in. Winged and feather boa kelp were bright in the tide pools, sea lettuce vivid green and delish to taste, and people kept stopping to ask what I was looking at.

Theo was learning new ocean words and squeezing seaweed in his hands. Nothing big — just a reminder that most of us don’t grow up knowing what’s right in front of us on the coast.

That’s the work behind Get Kelp.

Not just sharing information, but helping people notice what’s already there — and feel more connected to it.

This issue brings that together: what’s happening across the sector, and how it shows up in everyday life.

As always, feel free to reply — I read every message.

Stay curious. Stay salty.

Coming Next Month: Seaweed Brief

For readers following the seaweed sector more closely.

This Kelp Current newsletter is for curious readers — exploring seaweed through stories, simple science, and everyday use. But alongside that, something else has been building...

Seaweed is one of the largest aquaculture crops on Earth, and it’s growing quickly across food systems, climate, and the ocean economy.

New research is emerging weekly. Startups are entering the space. Governments are exploring policy. Farmers are testing new systems. But the signals shaping the sector are scattered.

The Seaweed Brief brings those signals together.

A premium monthly digest from Get Kelp, designed for industry professionals, researchers, and curious readers who want a clearer view of what’s happening — and where it’s heading.

Launching next month.
